Only a few species of turtles exhibit cloacal breathing behavior, among them the Australian Fitzroy river turtle and the North American eastern painted turtle.

The Chinese soft-shell turtle (and possibly other soft-shelled species) do expel the majority of their urea through their mouths. It is important to note, that these are not the same species that “breathe through their butts.”
